Introduction

In the story, a teenage boy had to face a lot of challenges in his life. Through the story, we get an idea about the feelings of the narrator. At the end, we find everything turns right and the narrator starts over again.

Narrator and His New School

The story begins with the narrator lamenting about his problems. He feels isolated and lonely in his new high school. He is unfamiliar with the environment here. He had to re-start as a new student. After receiving all the respect as a senior in his junior school everything seemed uncanny to him. This made him sad.

He said that whenever he missed his teachers, he went back to his old school. His teachers comforted him by telling him that he would be accustomed to his new school and would love that school more than his previous one.

On a windy Sunday afternoon, the narrator was doing his chores. His cat was laying over his papers exploring the environment. The cat was rescued by the narrator and thus it loved and always stayed near him.

The Narrator had to go to his grandparent’s house to stay. In the morning his mother forced him to go to school. He was in a weird condition with no book or homework. Rather he had to borrow shoes from his aunt and wear the same clothes.

He felt like an outsider and thought his destiny would always turn him down. Everything to him seemed like a nightmare. He was unable to understand what was going on around his school.

He felt helpless and wrecked, losing all he had, his house and his cat. While he returned from school he visited his burned out house. He was terrified looking at the scene. He knew that everything was completely destroyed. He was filled with agony for his cat. He was deeply attached to his cat and couldn’t bear her loss.

They borrowed some money and rented an apartment near their burned house.

The narrator was intensely affectionate towards his cat. His little kitten was part of his daily life thus he missed her very much. Even when the rubble was cleared from that place he would stand there. He thought that maybe he could find his cat.

He would remember disturbing his cat in the morning and how it would climb to his lap. And he terribly missed his cat and felt very bad.

The incident at Gym

Narrator never wanted to be famous in his school the way he became. Everyone knew about his tragedy. He was very much irritated and vexed with the situation.

One day while he was getting ready for Gym in the locker room. He was asked to hurry up but it didn’t make him feel anything different. He had to go through a lot in the last few days. It seemed like they pushed him to the gym.

When he stepped in the Gym he found a big table with a lot of stuff all collected for him. He saw that there were some school supplies , notebooks and even clothes.

He grew very emotional. The ones with whom he never had a talk were coming to introduce themselves. They all showed genuine concern towards him. The incident touched his heart and he was overjoyed.

For the first time he felt that he would be able to overcome everything. He made new friends and was a little relieved.

Return of his cat

After about a month, the narrator had started to rebuild his life. He had opened up to the people around him. Now He had become much more stable. He was watching his house to be reconstructed with two of his friends.

He heard a voice asking him about something which belonged to him or not. When turned to the voice, He couldn’t believe his eyes. He found a lady with his beloved cat.

He became very excited and hugged his cat and cried into its fur. The cat was also very happy to return to him. His friends hugged him and jumped around happily.

His cat actually had run from the fire about a mile away. This lady took care of her and worked hard to bring it back. The lady knew that someone must be missing it and lamenting over the loss.

When the narrator got back his cat he got back to his own life. He started to live his life again and everything for him was better.
